What is PayPal Pay In 3?

Spread the cost of your purchase over 3 months. For basket values between £30 and £2,000 you can use PayPal Pay In 3—it’s that easy.

Pay in 3 is an interest-free option that allows you to divide your purchase into three equal payments. The first payment is made at the time of purchase, with the remaining two payments due monthly on the same date. Please remember, Pay in 3 is a form of credit. Ensure you can comfortably afford the repayments, as missed payments may affect your eligibility for Pay in 3 in the future and could make it harder or more costly to obtain other forms of credit.

Pay In 3 FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)

How is my Pay in 3 application assessed?

PayPal’s decision-making process is automated. They evaluate your financial position by combining the information you provide during your application with details about your usage and history with PayPal. If more information is needed, they may perform a “soft” credit check with an external credit reference agency. This “soft” check is only visible to you and does not affect your credit score.

Will applying for Pay in 3 affect my credit score?

No, your credit score will not be impacted by applying for Pay in 3. While a “soft” credit check may be conducted, it does not influence your score. However, we do share certain repayment history data with TransUnion. Although this data won’t affect your credit score, it will be visible to other companies and could influence your ability to obtain credit from other lenders or the cost of borrowing. For more details, please refer to the Pay in 3 Terms & Conditions.

Why was my Pay in 3 application declined?

Their automated system evaluates your financial position based on the information provided in your application and your usage and history with PayPal. If Pay in 3 is deemed unsuitable for you at this time, your application may be declined.

If your application is not approved, you can still use PayPal to securely checkout with other payment methods in your PayPal wallet. The reason for the decline may be shown on your application decision page, or you may receive a secure message through PayPal explaining the outcome.
